WellDatabase has always allowed exports of general well information. Now we are adding the ability to customize your export using any number of data types. This means you will be able to export anything from headers to production to directional data for entire searches.
To show how the new Export works, we’ll go through a quick example. Here we have a search loaded and we are viewing the results one the list view (to see more about enabling the list view, see Using the Well Browser). You can then select any number of wells to export by checking the box next to the well or leave it blank to export all wells. Then click on Export Data to start the export process
The export works through a wizard to help guide you in selecting which data types and fields you want to export. First you select the data types. Nearly any data type in WellDatabase is available for you to export. Here we’ll select just Well Headers, Permits, and Production.
Then the wizard takes you through each data type and shows you the fields that are available for export. You can pick and choose the fields you would like to export or simply click Add All to include everything.
The final page of the wizard lets you choose the file type you would like to export as well as the option to save this as a template for future exporting. Export types are currently just CSV and Excel. CSV should be able to go into any major software (Aries, PHDWin, Petra, etc) via the ASCII or CSV import. At this point, the save for future exporting is not functioning, but it will recall your last export setting each time you start a new export.
When you click the Finish button, it will submit the export to our back-end systems where the data is pulled together and zipped up for delivery. This window will only show for a few seconds before going away.
At this time you can continue using WellDatabase and when the export is ready, a notification will appear in the top right corner. You can click the link to download the export or access it anytime through your WellDatabase files by going to My – Files.
When you download the export, it will come down as a single zip file. The zip file will contain an individual CSV file for each data type you export. Each CSV file will include a well identifier that you can use to tie records together from one CSV to another. This id is referred to as our InfinityID. For convenience, API numbers are also export to every CSV as well.
The WellDatabase export does have a cap of 10,000 well per export at this time. Also it should be noted that not all data types are available in all areas. To better understand the data types available for wells in your search, you can view the well details of a well in your search and see which tabs are available. This should let you know what data is available for the are you are searching.
