What is an Infinity ID?

Infinity ID, which is a global identifier that lets you tie information from all data types back to the well.

The Infinity ID serves as a unique identifier for each well within our database. Additionally, each row of data also receives a unique identifier. These are generated automatically whenever a new record is created in our back-end system. This identifier is universally unique and remains constant throughout the lifespan of the record.

We highly recommend that companies use our Infinity ID when mapping our data into their systems. This provides a reliable and efficient way to retrieve and work with our records.

Infinity ID or WellID: unique identifier for a well

In the Well Details card, the Infinity ID will reference the unique well identifier.

In the exported data, the unique well identifier is referenced as WellID

ID: In addition to the unique well identifier, every row will also have a unique ID.

In the header records, both the ID and WellID will be the same since they pertain to a specific well. However, for other data types such as Completions and Permits, each row will have a unique ID that differs from the WellID. This allows for better organization and identification of different records associated with the well.

Benefits of using the WellID over the API

API's in the US or UWI's in Canada, are more user friendly and easier to work with on a daily basis when trying to locate a well. However, when mapping data to your system, leveraging our unique ID, will allow you to determine if the row came to your system from WellDatabase and eliminate the possibility for duplicate records.

Here is an example where the API has been duplicated by the state:

While API numbers are typically unique to a well, there are instances where multiple wells can have the same API number. Let's take a look at an example where 11 wells share the same API number.

The API number remains the same for each of these wells, however, some of the well names have slight variations, and each well has a unique State ID. This occurrence from the state results in 11 wells having identical API numbers.  It's important to note that each of these wells still has a unique WellID associated with it.
