What data is contained in the Water Summary Records?

This articles gives an overview of the data points that can be found in the Water Summary Records.

Water summary information is an overview of water data pulled from the USGS water information database.

USGS Information

  • USGS ID: Unique identifier assigned by USGS
  • USGS Province: USGS designated province
  • USGS Region: USGS designated region

Geological Information

The geological aspects of a well are documented through several key data points:

  • Formation: Geologic formation where the well is located
  • Basin: Well basin
  • Geological Epoch: Geological epoch name
  • Geological Era: Geological era name
  • Geological Period: Geological period name
  • Lithology: Describes the physical characteristics of the rock formations

Well Characteristics

Physical characteristics of the well are captured through:

  • Depth: The reported total depth of the well
  • Elevation: Ground elevation measured in feet
  • Lower Perf: Lower perforation depth
  • Upper Perf: Upper perforation depth
  • Well Type: Type of well

Water Properties

Chemical and physical properties of water samples include:

  • pH: Measure of acidity/alkalinity
  • Charge Balance of Major Ions %: Reported as a percentage
  • Total Dissolved Solids: Amount of dissolved solids
  • Total Suspended Solids: Amount of suspended solids
  • Specific Gravity: Specific gravity measured
  • Resistivity (Ohm): Resistivity measured in Ohms
  • Pressure (psi): Pressure measured in PSI
  • Porosity %: Porosity percentage reported

Temperature Measurements

Various temperature readings are recorded in Fahrenheit:

  • pH Temperature (F): Temperature at which pH was measured
  • Resistivity Temperature (F): Temperature of resistivity measurement
  • Specific Gravity Temperature (F): Temperature of specific gravity measurement
  • Temperature (F): Temperature reported

Additional Information

  • Sample Method: Sampling method
  • Sample Date: When the sample was collected
  • Remarks: Additional comments or observations
  • Completion Date: When the well was completed

Records Management

  • Well ID: Unique well identifier
  • ID: Internal unique Identifier
  • Internal ID: Integer identifier for quick querying
  • Simple ID: Well identifier as an integer for simple and quick querying
  • Date Catalogued: When the record entered the export database
  • Date Created: Initial record creation in WellDatabase
  • Date Last Modified: Most recent update to the record
